Trade shows are a wonderful source of information about the embroidery industry or the wider apparel decorating industry. You can see equipment, accessories, and supplies first hand, get product demos and literature, and talk to knowledgable industry representatives. Some shows even offer educational opportunites, with training classes.

NBM Show - The NBM Show is actually three shows in one, including the Printwear show, where you will find embroidery and other apparel decorating equipment.
SGIA Expo - The SGIA Expo is geared toward printing and graphics, so you will find digital garment printers and screenprinting equipment, but check the exhibitor's list first if you are looking for embroidery equipment.
ASI Show - The ASI Show is an excellent choice for networking and education, but check the exhibitor's list first if you are looking for equipment demos.
DAX Show - The DAX Show, or Decorated Apparel Expo, is probably the smallest show in this list, but the focus is exclusively on decorated apparel.
